Missouri-based Diamond Pet Foods recalls more dry dog food made at its South Carolina plant

Missouri-based Diamond Pet Foods is voluntarily recalling a third type of dry dog food because of salmonella concerns.

A statement Monday from the company said the latest recall involves its Diamond Puppy Formula dry dog food. No canine illnesses have been reported.

The product was distributed to customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The company also announced in April that it was recalling batches of its Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Adult Light Formula and Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal & Rice.

Name: Brock    Breed: Black Labrador Retriever Mix

Approximate Age: 2-3 years old

Approximate Weight: 60-65 lbs

Currently Living at: Overcrowded Shelter – Brock needs a foster or adopter soon!

Meet Brock, he is a 2-3 year old, Black Labrador Retriever mix, who weighs around 60-65 lbs.   This handsome boy is very friendly and affectionate.  He enjoys the company of other dogs (we’re not sure how he is with cats but we can test him if you have a kitty at home).   Brock is past the crazy puppy antics, but he is still young and has plenty of energy for long walks around the neighborhood and playing games of fetch or tug-of-war.  He would have fun at the dog park.   Once Brock is all tired out, he’d love nothing better than to cuddle up for some belly rubs.

Brock is hoping some special person or family will adopt him soon and give him the loving home he deserves.  He is currently living in an overcrowded high-kill shelter, we don’t understand how this sweet boy ended up there, but we know he would love to get out of there and into a home of his own!  Brock would love to be your companion or part of your family; you won’t regret opening your home to this wonderful boy!  Lucky Dog wants to help Brock find a home; please consider fostering, adopting or sponsoring him!

If you are interested in adopting, fostering or sponsoring Brock please email Sheila atsheilam@luckydoganimalrescue.org  ASAP!

Today is National Kids and Pet Day!

What better way to show your pet some love today by letting your kids make a special treat!

If your dog loves crunchy dog biscuits, you should try this recipe! Not only are they easy to make, but they are made using 4 ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. Easy? Check. No weird ingredients? Check. Dog approved? Oh yeah!

Ingredients:

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup chunky peanut butter
1 cup milk

Directions:

1. Preheat your oven to 375 and lightly grease a baking sheet (or two).
2. Add the flour and baking powder to a mixing bowl and combine them first, then add the milk and peanut butter. Mix until a dough forms.
3. Roll out the dough until it’s about a 1/4 inch thick, then cut into shapes using a cookie cutter.
4. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Tips:

  • If you don’t have any cookie cutters on hand, the dough can be cut into bite-sized squares using a pizza cutter.
  • If you’d like for the finished dog biscuits to be a tad crispier, turn off your oven after 20 minutes and let biscuits cool in there overnight. That will give them a little extra crunch.

Becky’s Pet Care in the News!

by Publisher on April 25, 2012 · 0 comments

The Huffington Post has written an article titled the “Power of Microbusiness to Drive Job Creation” and Becky’s Pet Care is mentioned! They called Becky’s Pet Care a great ‘momentum’ business. What started as a small business in a basement has grown and created new jobs for the community. Because of our consistent growth, we needed more space to accommodate our growing workforce of over 80 employees.  So we went on the move… . In October,  we moved to a new office facility in Alexandria, Va.  The new office gives us more room that we needed to grow and provide our clients with the best service possible.  Then, in April we opened our second Becky’s Pet Care location in Woodbridge, Va. The Prince William Chamber of Commerce were on hand to assist with the ribbon cutting, as well as company officials and elected officials. The new office not only represents new growth for the company, but also economic development for the area bringing in new jobs and opportunities to the region.  Click HERE to read the “Huffington Post” story!

Return to Sender

As a part of National “Scoop the Poop” week, here is a story that is sure to make you laugh!

“Return to Sender”

by Ginny Pospisil

OK true story…not sure who it is more embarrassing for though…my family are responsible dog owners. We clean up after our pets, but some people carelessly let their dogs roam the neighborhood. The neighbor’s dog came in our yard and did his business as my grandmother was sitting on the porch. After he finished doing the ‘doo’, grandma got a shovel, scooped it up, walked over to the neighbor’s house and knocked on the door. When the man answered the door, grandma said, “I have something here that I that belongs to you.” With that said, she dropped it on the ‘Welcome’ mat and strolled calmly back home!
